Matthew Perry, the actor who became a household name as Chandler Bing from the sitcom Friends, is no more. The star died after apparently drowning in his jacuzzi at his Los Angeles home on Saturday. The news has left everyone shocked, and several of the actor’s co-stars have taken to their social media handles to mourn the loss and pay their last tributes to the late actor.
Piers Morgan, a popular television host, was among the first to share his heartbreaking reaction to the news. “I am completely lost for words, but I can’t imagine what his family and friends are going through,” he wrote in a short video post. “I hope he is at peace and in a better place.”
Selma Blair, another actress from the popular TV series, was among the first to share her grief over the news. She took to Instagram and posted a picture of herself with Perry along with the caption, “Rest in peace, dearest Matthew Perry. You will be missed so much. You were a kind and sweet soul. You will always be in our hearts.”
Gwyneth Paltrow, who starred with Perry on the popular show, also took to her Instagram page to mourn the actor’s death. She recalled spending a “magical summer” with him in 1993 when they worked on the hit series together. “He will always be remembered for his immense talent and the joy he brought to so many in this life,” she wrote. Meanwhile, Maggie Wheeler, who played his on-screen love interest Janice, said that he was someone who had “a pure, good heart.”
The LAPD’s robbery-homicide division is investigating the incident. No foul play has been suspected so far, though authorities haven’t commented on whether they suspect any drugs may have contributed to the actor’s death. Perry had a long history of drug and alcohol addiction and was frequently hospitalized. The 54-year-old was most recently diagnosed with a gastrointestinal perforation five years ago.
Perry is survived by his mother, Suzanne, and stepfather, Keith Morrison. His father, John Bennett, was not present at the time of his death. He leaves behind a large circle of close friends and fans.
