On September 14, 2026 Apple released iOS 27, the same day it shipped iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27. The banner is Siri AI: a rebuilt assistant that Apple promises to be more conversational personalized context-aware on-screen, knowledgeable about the world, and more deeply integrated with apps.
This is still the long-delayed follow-through on the Apple Intelligence pitch Apple showed off years ago, now taking a test drive on a next-gen stack reportedly utilizing on-device foundation models and Private Cloud Compute, with training assistance from personalized Gemini models. (Just installing the update doesn’t automatically enable the newly-designed Siri. Eligible users outside blocked territories sign up for a waitlist in Settings in the Apple Intelligence section.)
Siri AI goes- live as beta English only. French Japanese Korean Portuguese Spanish will follow in October. It’s not on iPhone iPad Watch in EU at launch; Apple have linked availability to Digital Markets Act. China isn’t included, at launch. Mac, Vision Pro users in the EU can access it provided their language is supported. Hardware is another barrier.

IOS 27 is itself installed on the iPhone 11 and above, but Siri AI and rest of Apple Intelligence require an iPhone 15 Pro or higher. The latest iPhone 18 Pro models announced the day before will be shipped with the software. There is a dedicated Siri app that saves conversations and syncs them over iCloud. Meanwhile, you can still use “Hey Siri” or the side button, or squeeze down from the Dynamic Island or locate by Spotlight. Camera will have a dedicated Siri mode for Visual Intelligence e.g. inquire about a shared plate of food or chipping in for a pizza.
The remainder of iOS 27 is less future-gazing and more useful. Liquid Glass has an opacity slider to make the interface appear clearer or more frosting. Apple promises faster app launches, quicker Photos loads, and snappier AirDrop. Writing instruments, Photos edits like Spatial Reframing and a new Extend tool Messages Mail, Safari, and Shortcuts all inherit additional Intelligence capabilities. A few of the more complex generation tools have daily quotas.
As we have noted, the early users who lived with the summer betas find themselves with a Siri that is finally all in the same conversation as ChatGPT and Gemini for follow-up and personal recall, but still sounds like Apple: useful first, flashy second. Will the waitlist and regional failures blunt the moment? That’s the story of the next few weeks. Software is available. The assistant is not.
