Taylor Swift’s longtime publicist has slammed rumors that the singer secretly tied the knot with her ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn before their breakup. Taking to social media Thursday, Tree Paine slammed celebrity gossip Instagram account Deuxmoi for claiming that the “Anti-Hero” hitmaker held a? marriage? Ceremony in 2020 or 2021. “Taylor has never been married, nor do rumors that she had a ceremonial marriage hold any water,” Paine wrote in a post on her X (formerly Twitter) account. The “Blank Space” singer added that the gossip page had caused her client “pain and trauma” with its fabricated lies.
In a follow-up post, Paine called out the gossip account for attacking her client with an “outright lie.” She then questioned why a page earning money by sharing real news would “dish up this nonsense.” “If you’re going to run fake s**t stories about someone, at least have the decency and integrity to be accurate,” she concluded. “You’re doing your client a disservice and should be ashamed.”
In April, PEOPLE broke the story that the singer and the actor had decided to end their romance after six years together. While the two dated mainly behind closed doors, they did make a few public appearances. During their time together, they made their first Met Gala red carpet appearance in 2016 and had several other low-key outings.
After their split, Taylor moved on to her beau of five months, NFL player Travis Kelce. The couple went on a romantic date in London and were spotted together again during her Era’s Tour stop in Argentina. They also recently spent a day at Missouri’s Kansas City Chiefs training camp.
While the pair have kept their relationship private, Kelce’s brother has clarified that they are very much in love. He even shared a photo of Kelce and Taylor kissing during their trip to the camp.
Despite this, fans have quickly pointed out that Kelce and Swift are not engaged or married. They’ve also noted that the “Bad Blood” singer hasn’t shared any official photos with Kelce since their reunion in early November.
Meanwhile, a source close to the star told PEOPLE that Taylor’s friends aren’t shocked that she and Alwyn ended their relationship. “Taylor’s closest friends have been telling her for a long time that this wasn’t the right relationship for her,” the insider said. “Taylor knows who she is and can surround herself with people who will support her.”
A source close to the actress also shared that it’s not surprising that Swift and Alwyn ended their romance because they were incompatible. The source also explained that the relationship was complicated because of “their very different lifestyles.” In a recent interview, Jack Antonoff, who helped write Taylor’s upcoming album Reputation, revealed that the track You’re Losing Me is about an “awkward phase” in their marriage. The song was recorded on Dec. 5, 2021.
