On Wednesday, Taylor Swift, the renowned pop superstar, secured another accolade by winning the Global Recording Artist of the Year award from the IFPI for the fourth time. IFPI represents the recorded music industry, and the “Anti-Hero” singer clinched the award based on global sales encompassing streaming, downloads, and physical music formats. Swift triumphed over formidable competitors such as K-Pop powerhouses SEVENTEEN and Stray Kids, as well as Drake, The Weeknd, and Ed Sheeran.
IFPI’s Director of Charts and Certifications Lewis Morrison said it was a “truly remarkable achievement” for the 34-year-old singer, who has won the prize more than any other artist in its 11-year history. He said: “Taylor is a truly magnificent international star who continues to evolve her artistry and connects with fans across cultures and generations.”
The IFPI Global Recording Artist Chart is based on the world’s biggest-selling artists ranked by their total worldwide sales for 2023, including streaming, downloads, physical albums, ringtones, and music video views. This Year’s IFPI top 10 also includes US country singer Morgan Wallen (No. 6), who debuted on the chart thanks to his 2023 album ‘One Thing at a Time,’ and K-Pop acts TOMORROW X TOGETHER (No. 7), NewJeans (No. 8) and iKON (No. 15).
