Tom Cruise has done a lot of impressive stunts in his career, but he might have to do them all over again now that the next Mission Impossible has been delayed due to Hollywood Actors Strike. As a result, the eighth installment of this franchise will now debut in 2025 instead of June 28 of next year. This move comes as part of a wave of release schedule juggling that Hollywood studios are doing to cope with the ongoing actors’ strike.
Christopher McQuarrie and stars Cruise direct the latest Mission Impossible as his iconic character, Ethan Hunt. The film follows Hunt’s quest to prevent a powerful alien bioweapon from getting into the wrong hands, and he will face some dark forces from his past. The previous installment, ‘Dead Reckoning, Part 1’, was a massive blockbuster, grossing around $567.5 million worldwide. It is also one of the highest-grossing films from this venerable action franchise, which dates back to 1996 with the original movie based on the 1960s television show.
This new installment reunites the team from the first film, including co-stars Hayley Atwell, Simon Pegg, and Ving Rhames. It will also introduce a new addition in the form of actress Rebecca Ferguson, who plays the character Ilsa Faust.
But the main reason for the production delay is the ongoing strike. During the first phase of the strike, production was forced to be stopped, and now that it has entered its second month, it is becoming increasingly difficult for film crews to resume work. The production house, Paramount, decided it would be best to push the release date to 2025 for this reason.
In a statement, Paramount Pictures confirmed the move to shift the release date of the new Mission Impossible from its planned June 28, 2024 slot to May 23, 2025. The company added that the movie will remain untitled, but a fresh title will be revealed later.
Despite the delay, Paramount is still planning to open the movie in IMAX theaters for three weeks, which will help boost ticket sales. It will also get an exclusive release in China for Memorial Day weekend in 2025.
This latest development comes as the actor has been struggling with a severe substance abuse problem for quite some time now. He has been open about his struggle and how it affects his life. Earlier this week, the actor took to Twitter to thank his fans for their support and love during his hard times.
Despite the issues with his personal life, the actor is not letting it slow down his professional work. He has a few projects lined up for the coming years, including an adaptation of the famous book, ‘To Kill A Mockingbird.’ He will also star in an upcoming sci-fi drama called ‘Beyond The Storm,’ which is set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in June this year.
