The cast of the Shonda Rhimes-produced period drama Bridgerton offered fans a sneak peek of its third season on Wednesday. The show’s newest romantic leads, Penelope Featherington, played by Nicola Coughlan, and Colin Bridgerton, portrayed by Luke Newton, take center stage in the new season of the hit Netflix drama that has gained fans worldwide. Newton and Coughlan posed for photos together at a ball, with fans praising both actors’ looks and romantic chemistry.
The duo were all smiles as they posed for the cameras, with Coughlan looking stunning in a dark pink dress and Newton looking dapper in a grey suit. The two also held hands and embraced as they kissed, embracing the other’s face. Fans quickly commented on the cute couple, with many calling them “the perfect match” and “swoon-worthy.”
In a short video clip posted by Netflix, the pair got into their carriage, with Coughlan smiling as she hopped in. Other Bridgerton cast members joined them, including Phoebe Dynevor as Daphne and Jonathan Bailey as Anthony. The video was captioned with the words “filming has begun,” confirming that the cast has officially started to return for the third season of the series.
According to a synopsis released by the show, Penelope will have given up her long-held crush on Colin in the new season and decided she is ready to find a husband. However, Colin is still struggling to accept her as more than a friend, which will cause the two to clash over their plans for themselves.
The Bridgerton siblings will be joined by several new characters this year. Hannah Dodd will replace Ruby Stokes as Lady Tilley Arnold, who will enjoy the financial, societal, and sexual freedom of her late husband’s estate. Sam Phillips (The Crown) will play Lord Debling, and James Phoon (Wreck) will join the cast as Harry Dankworth, who may lack wit and intelligence but makes up for it with some perfect looks.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight in September 2022, the show’s stars, Claudia Jessie and Luke Newton, teased what fans can expect from the season ahead. Both agreed that their romance would test Colin and Penelope’s wouldibling relationship, Penelope’s activities as Lady Whistledown, and her falling out with Eloise.
