While promoting their new movie, IF, Ryan Reynolds received the Dwight Schrute treatment alongside John Krasinski. The Deadpool star talked about the film in a behind-the-scenes video when Randall Park walked into the shot, claiming to be Krasinski, who also stars in and directs the flick. Immediately, Reynolds needs clarification. “You’re not John Krasinski; you’re Randall Park,” he says. “John Krasinski is much shorter and less Asian than you are.” The two engaged in a hilarious back-and-forth that had viewers in stitches.
The scene was a callback to a famous season 9 of The Office moment when Jim Halpert and Pam Beesly had their friend Steve, played by Park, pretend to be Jim as a prank on Rainn Wilson’s Dwight Schrute. The clip has been shared on social media, with fans loving the joke. It was even picked up by IF’s official YouTube channel, which features all of the film’s trailers.
Park is among several famous faces in the IF cast, including Cailey Fleming, Matt Damon, Jon Stewart, Emily Blunt, Bobby Moynihan, Sebastian Maniscalco, Richard Jenkins, Christopher Meloni, and Awkwafina. The film tells the story of a girl who begins to see her imaginary friends as she goes through a tough time in her life. It is written and directed by Krasinski, who also plays one of the IFs in the movie.
I will hit theaters on May 24. In the meantime, you can watch the teaser trailer below.
A behind-the-scenes video for the film has been released. It shows a confused Reynolds trying to talk about IF with Krasinski, who doesn’t look like the actor we know. The two have a funny back-and-forth that ends with Park posing as Krasinski and answering questions about the movie.
This is just the latest in a series of clever marketing campaigns for the upcoming film. Previous ads have featured a giant inflatable rat, a sexy robot, and a holographic doppelganger. This is another example of how Krasinski and Reynolds work together to create funny content for their movies. They make a great pair, and watching them bounce off each other’s comedic timing is fun. We hope to see these two teams up again in the future.
