In a new interview, Angelina Jolie has opened up about her very public divorce from Brad Pitt. The actress said that she has not been herself for the past decade as she has dealt with so many things, including undergoing surgery to reduce her risk of breast cancer and a bitter custody battle with her ex. She added that she would have gone “under in a darker way” without her six children for support.
Jolie has been in a tumultuous time for quite some time as she and her ex are locked in a custody battle over their children and property. In new court documents, she claims that Pitt was abusive towards her and their eldest son, Maddox, during a 2016 plane ride. In the highly redacted papers, Jolie says that Pitt shook her and pushed her into the plane’s wall while also pouring beer on her. Pitt reportedly denied the allegations and has been cleared of abuse charges by the FBI.
In a new interview with The Wall Street Journal Magazine, Jolie discussed the difficult times she’s been going through since her separation from Pitt. She said that she has been “lost in a way, not having much of a social life,” as the unwanted attention makes it hard to go out and have fun. She also added that she has been struggling with her relationship with God and is seeking solace in her kids.
The actor went on to say that she would like to leave Hollywood as she feels it is not very ‘healthy’ to live there. She said that she doesn’t have a home in Los Angeles anymore and instead spends most of her time in Cambodia. She has been working on various projects, including starring in Pablo Larrain’s Maria biopic and launching her fashion venture, Atelier Jolie.
The actress also said that she hopes to get her life back in order and has already begun a public wellness journey with a gender-fluid skincare line, sobriety, and foray into sculpture work. She also talked about her ongoing legal battle with Pitt, revealing that she wants him to share in parenting their six children. Pitt recently spoke to GQ and defended himself against Jolie’s accusations, saying he would take responsibility for his actions but not own up to things he didn’t do. He also praised his former wife for her dedication to their children’s well-being. This is the first time that Jolie has spoken publicly about her split from Pitt. She may ever return to acting full-time, as she has only been in a few movies over the years. She will next be seen in the upcoming drama Maleficent 2.
