The feud between the NFL star and the late-night comedian is heating up. On a recent episode of ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show, New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers made the ominous suggestion that Kimmel could be on a list associated with Jeffrey Epstein, the US financier who killed himself in 2019 as he awaited trial for sex crimes. A judge is anticipated to soon release documents from a lawsuit against Epstein, which are expected to reveal a list of his associates.
Rodgers weighed in on whether he might be included during the Tuesday segment. “There’s a lot of people, including myself, that are hoping that doesn’t come out,” he said.
While Rodgers’ comment drew attention from the wider public, it wasn’t the first time that the quarterback has raised the issue. In March 2023, he suggested that last year’s news cycle on UFO sightings may have been designed to distract from the revelation of the Epstein list. The remark caught the eye of Kimmel, who mocked Rodgers for his comments on his show. He called Rodgers a “tin-foil hatter” and said it might be time for the quarterback to revisit his stance on vaccinations.
But the two have traded jabs on X, formerly known as Twitter, with Kimmel recently suggesting that Rodgers should be imprisoned for making inflammatory remarks. “I would like to personally put this guy in a cell for his reckless, dangerous, and harmful comments,” Kimmel wrote in one tweet. “You’re a hazardous man, and you put my family in danger by saying such things.”
Both sides have yet to respond to Business Insider’s requests for comment. Rodgers is widely viewed as a controversial figure for his anti-vaccination views and his stance on the COVID-19 pandemic, while Kimmel is a noted supporter of vaccines.
The feud between the pair has sparked because of an unflattering clip that surfaced on social media of the athlete speaking out against the Trump administration. The clip was accompanied by an image of an altered document that looked like a list from the case against Epstein, with one name resembling Kimmel’s.
Kimmel has since threatened to sue Rodgers for the remark and for using an “inappropriate” image. “It’s a libelous statement that is completely false and without merit,” the comedian told his followers in a separate tweet. “I will not allow you to attack my wife and kids for no reason.” Kimmel’s followers have jumped to his defense, calling him out for allegedly violating Rodgers’ free speech and due process rights.
