Hollywood starts are expected to light up the upcoming Glasgow Film Festival. James McAvoy, Tim Roth, Jessica Lange and Ed Harris are among those who will tread the read carper at this year’s event. The event-scheduled to take place between 26 February and 9 March- will feature 13 world and European premieres, 66 UK premieres and 12 Scottish premieres from 38 countries.
Pulp Fiction star Tim Roth, Japanese model, musician and actor Koki, Shogun star Takehiro Hira and Edinburgh director John Maclean will be attending the world premiere of their new survival thriller Tornado.
Hollywood legends Ed Harris and Jessica Lange will be at the UK premier of Long Day’s Journey Into Night, the new big-screen adaptation of Eugene O’Neill’s seminal American play. Lange will also appear in a special In Conversation event where she will reflect on her six-decade-long screen career, from King Kong and Tootsie to Rob Roy and American Horror Story.
Lange has bagged up numerous awards over the last couple of years, including two Oscars for Tootsie and Blue Sky. She also has eight Emmy and Golden Globe Awards to her name, some of which were won due to her performances in TV anthology American Horror Story.
Meanwhile, Formula One champion Damon Hill will attend the world premier of Sky’s new documentary Hill. The film featuring intimate interviews with the sportsman and his family, will tell the story of how he overcame losing his legendary father Graham Hill in a plane crash to follow in his footsteps to become a world champion driver himself.
The festival will also not be shy of homegrown talent with a host of them expected to light the red carpet. X-Men: First Class Star McAvoy will introduce a special screening of his breakthrough role in 2006 film The Last King of Scotland, while 1917 actor George MacKay returns to the festival with the Scottish premiers of the post-apocalyptic musical The End.
Martin Compston, Line of Duty star will also be joined by James Cosmo and Solly McLeod at the world premiere of the first episode of new Amazon Studios-produces thriller Fear, which was shot in Glasgow’s West End.
The Glasgow Film Festival is also expected to welcome a host of famous names from behind the camera including Athina Rachel Tsangari and The Greasy Strangler auteur Jim Hosking, who will be at the UK premiere of his new feature Ebony & Ivory.
