The United Kingdom has extended an invitation to Indian citizens seeking to reside, work, or pursue studies in the country for a duration of two years. The announcement was made by the British High Commission in India, introducing a fresh ballot system as part of the India Young Professionals Scheme. This initiative enables individuals between the ages of 18 and 30 from India to obtain approval for advancing their careers in Europe.
The British government has partnered with Indian authorities to provide this opportunity to 3,000 Indian graduates annually through an exchange program. This is the first time the UK has opened its doors to a specific cohort of professionals, allowing them to enter and then live in the country. The program is part of the UK-India Mobility and Migration Partnership launched in May 2021, aimed at strengthening immigration laws between countries.
Under this scheme, candidates can choose their career paths in the UK if they meet financial and educational requirements. The UK says the visa is designed for graduates “keen to explore a different life experience and who can contribute to both societies.”
While most of the 3,000 places were allocated in the first ballot in February this year, the remaining places will be available in the July ballot. Those selected in the ballot will receive an email within two weeks of closing stating they’re among the successful entries. Those chosen must then apply online for the visa, pay a fee for the healthcare surcharge, and provide their biometrics.
To be eligible for the visa, you must have a degree equal to or higher than a bachelor’s. You also need to be in employment or have significant monetary savings. The UK seeks applicants from various industries, including tech, business, engineering, healthcare, and finance. You’ll be able to choose your role or company as long as it is not one of the restricted categories listed by the UK, and you can also be self-employed. The only restrictions are that you can’t receive public funds, work as a professional sportsperson, or bring family members with you to the UK.
The ballot will open from 2:30 PM IST on 20th February until 2:30 PM IST on 22nd February. To be eligible, you must submit an email with the following details: – Your name – Your date of birth – A scan or photo of your passport – The subject line must contain ‘India Young Professionals Ballot’ – Your email must be sent in English.
