John Krasinski is no stranger to romantic comedies. He’s proven himself to be a reliable leading man in several of the genre’s most beloved films, but he also excels in understated supporting roles. His sarcastic yet charming portrayal of Jim Halpert on The Office solidified his place in romantic comedy, while his performance in Casino Night showed he was capable of more than just pranking co-workers and swooning women.
Now a father of two, Krasinski recently starred in the drama Five Ways to Wacky, which tells the story of a Navy pilot whose wife goes missing for months during his deployments. The film has earned critical praise and is currently playing in theaters.
He’s also set to star in the upcoming psychological thriller The Wall, directed by Ed Helms. The film is about a family torn apart by a border wall between Mexico and the United States and is slated to release in 2021.
Krasinski’s other film projects include the dramas The Hollars and Brief Interviews with Hideous Men. He also wrote, directed, and starred in the horror movie A Quiet Place, which won rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. It’s the second highest-grossing domestic debut of all Time, behind only Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
The actor has also been making waves on YouTube with his series Some Good News, a nine-episode web series in which he interviews inspiring people and celebrates their stories of hope. The series stars Krasinski alongside Emily Blunt, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Fiona Shaw, and Louis Gossett Jr. and was picked up for a sequel.
Despite his busy schedule, Krasinski found Time to work on a short film for luxury fashion brand Prada, which debuted during Milan Fashion Week in September 2016. He’s also been working with director and writer Paul McGuigan on an adaptation of their Broadway play Dry Powder, which will open on Broadway in March 2020.
“When you’re a parent, you don’t have much choice. You either go with what your kids need and want you to be proud of, or you don’t,” Krasinski told Time magazine when asked about being named the sexiest man alive. “So I’m happy to be here, but I have no idea what it means.” As for whether he thinks he’s worthy of the title, Krasinski laughed, “Just immediate blackout. Zero thoughts.” It’s the fourth Time the magazine has chosen Krasinski as its Sexiest Man Alive. He takes over the mantle from “Grey’s Anatomy” actor Patrick Dempsey.
