Jay-Z, the star rapper and entrepreneur whose real name is Shawn Carter, was accused in a lawsuit Sunday of raping a 13-year-old girl in 2,000 allegedly along with Sean “Diddy” Combs. The anonymous accuser, identified only as “Jane Doe,” said the assault happened after she was driven to an MTV Video Music Awards after-party.
The lawsuit was initially filed against Combs in October, but on Sunday the woman added Sawn Carter. Jay-Z is the first celebrity to be accused of sexual assault in connection to Combs. Texas-based attorney Tony Buzbee, who filed the suit, did not issue a comment.
Jay-Z denied the allegations on social media and lambasted the lawsuit, calling it part of a “blackmail attempt” by the plaintiff’s lawyer. In a statement posted by his label, Roc Nation, he said he was heartbroken for his family, and for having to explain the nature of the allegation to his and Beyonce’s oldest daughter, Blue Ivy, 12, Lawyers for Jay-Z didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
Mr. Combs- who is in jail awaiting trial after being charged in September with sex-trafficking and other offences- denied the latest accusation. The lawsuit claims that the anonymous girl was drugged and raped by both Jay-Z and Combs at a party hosted by Combs after the MTV music awards in 2000, which were held in New York.
The unnamed girl alleges that Jay-Z and Combs took turns raping her at the party, and that she drank a drink that made her feel “woozy and lightheaded.” She escaped, she said, by hitting Combs in the neck as he assaulted her, then ran to a petrol station and was collected by her father.
In his statement, Jay-Z said, “These allegations are so heinous in nature that I implore you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil one!! Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away, would you not agree?” “These alleged victims would deserve real justice if that were the case.”
In a statement, legal representatives for Combs called the suits “shameless publicity stunts, designed to extract payments from celebrities who fear having lies spread about them, just as lies have been spread about Mr. Combs.”
Prosecutors said in a court hearing last month that they are in the process of potentially bringing more charges against Combs in a superseding indictment.
