Checkerboard reigned on Versace’s catwalk at Milan Fashion Week, with designer Donatella Versace serving up the print on dresses and suits for women’s wardrobes next spring. Models wore collarless jackets, short feminine dresses in pastel colors, and boxy satin jackets paired with billowy shorts in Friday night’s show. There were also denim outfits, skirtsuits in darker black and white tones, and shiny evening dresses. Accessories consisted of flat ballerina shoes and hair bows.
The collection, which was co-designed by Dua Lipa and Donatella, is available to purchase now. Its thematic motif is a reimagined Butterfly & Ladybugs print from the Versace archive, complemented by Greca Goddess bags and archival nastro Gianni stitch details. It’s a collection that speaks to the two women’s shared love of the Versace house and its iconic aesthetic.
In a slick and sleek salon-style collection presentation, guests were welcomed by host Ivan de Pineda into the garden of a French Riviera villa for Versace’s S/S 2022 show. The show is a culmination of the pandemic’s most emotional and poignant moments, with music from singer Zsela and spoken word performance by poet Mykki Blanco capturing the mood.
The highlight of the runway was Natalia Bryant making her modeling debut at Versace clad in a clingy, goth black dress. The model daughter of Kobe Bryant walked alongside fellow stars Claudia Schiffer and Kendall Jenner to deliver an impressive strut, showcasing a solid figure in the form-fitting silhouette that featured structured shoulders and a nipped-in waist.
Another star to watch was Gigi Hadid, who made her return to the Versace runway in the relaunch of their spring 2024 collection. The Gigi Hadid Foundation ambassador sported a form-fitting black mini with puffed sleeves and an adjustable double strap that showed a little skin. She teamed the piece with silver metallic pointed heels and a natural makeup look for a relaxed and polished look.
Other highlights included a denim maxi dress by MSGM spotted on the runway worn by model and blogger Sara Moschini. The Grazia Italy editor-in-chief wore the piece with blue wide-leg jeans, a black bomber jacket, and a Barbie pink crossbody bag. Other pieces to note were a khaki trench from Balmain and a pair of strappy-heeled boots from Casadei.
