Ryuchell, a pioneer for genderless fashion and a powerful voice for activism, left behind a devoted fanbase and a legacy of self-expression and advocacy that has impacted many.
According to reports, the 27-year-old’s manager discovered them unresponsive at their agency’s office in Tokyo on Wednesday evening. Despite immediate medical attention, the performer was pronounced dead shortly after. The cause of death has not been confirmed, but police are investigating whether the incident could have been a suicide.
Ryuchell was born in 1995 in Ginowan, Okinawa Prefecture, and shifted their base to the Harajuku neighborhood in Tokyo after graduating from high school. The performer worked at clothing stores in the area and soon became famous for their genderless dressing style. They gained prominence on social media platforms and were recognized as critical figures in the Harajuku subculture.
