The sequel to the blockbuster animated hit Moana will voyage into theaters in November 2024. Disney’s upcoming sequel is all set to take the audience on an expansive new voyage with Moana, Maui, and a brand-new crew of unlikely seafarers. The film’s first look was unveiled on February 8 with a crisp promo. It shows Moana and Maui on a new adventure guided by the whispers of their wayfinding ancestors.
The Rock revealed the news in a pre-recorded message from Hawaii as part of The Walt Disney Company’s meeting of shareholders webcast. Like its animated predecessor, the live-action reimagining will celebrate the islands, communities, and traditions of Pacific Islanders. The film will be directed by Moana story artist Dave Derrick Jr, with music from Grammy winners Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, Grammy nominee Opetaia Foa’i, and three-time Grammy winner Mark Mancina.
Dwayne Johnson is on board to reprise his voice role as demigod Maui. The film will also feature a reimagined version of the original best-selling single, How Far Ill Go.
While the announcement took fans by surprise, some were already speculating that more Moana might be coming, especially after the movie’s success. But that is a bit of wishful thinking, as no one wants to see the same thing happen again.
It would be great if we revisited Moana and Maui’s adventures in a different setting. However, this should not be an excuse to throw another sequel out there. Disney should take the time to create a proper storyline for the movie rather than rehash what happened in the original.
Dwayne Johnson has just confirmed he will return as demigod Maui for the Moana sequel. But this isn’t a big surprise, as the original trailer has a brief clip of the character calling out his fa’aumu call.
Moreover, Johnson confirms he is in talks to produce the movie alongside Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia through their Seven Bucks Productions and Beau Flynn via his Flynn Picture Co. The original’s screenwriter, Jared Bush, will also return for the sequel.
They are all set to release on November 27, 2024. For more updates on the same, stay tuned to our website. You can also follow us on Facebook and Twitter. Stay connected, and keep sharing!
