Margot Robbie and her husband, producer-actor Tom Ackerley, have welcomed a baby boy into their family. Their son arrived slightly ahead of schedule on October 17, as reported by the Daily Mail. The couple has been married since December 2016, after tying the knot in a private ceremony in Byron Bay, Australia. Ackerley, an assistant director, has experience on both sides of the camera; he served as a second unit director for Suite Francaise in 2013 and co-founded LuckyChap Entertainment in 2014 alongside Sophia Kerr and Josey McNamara. The production company has been behind several of Robbie’s films, including I, Tonya, Birds of Prey, and Barbie.
The family is reportedly doing well, and both grandparents are expected to visit Los Angeles soon to meet their grandson. It’s no secret that the 34-year-old Australian actor recently honored as PEOPLE’s Power of Women 2024 winner has been looking forward to her first child. In July, sources told PEOPLE that Robbie and Ackerley had been eager to start a family for a long time. “Margot absolutely can’t wait to be a mom,” said one source.
Robbie and Ackerley met on the set of Suite Francaise in 2013 when he was an assistant director, and she acted in front of the camera. They got to know each other over eight years ago. They wed in a private ceremony in December 2016 and kept their relationship out of the spotlight following the nuptials.
While they’ve only appeared together on the red carpet for a few events – and haven’t stepped out in public together since September for the premiere of the comedy My Old Ass – it seems as though Ackerley has been eagerly preparing for his new role as father. He’s been spotted shopping for diapers and other essentials at stores near their home in Venice Beach.
