General Motors (GM) has announced a significant recall affecting over 449,000 pickup trucks and SUVs sold in the United States. The recall is due to a potential issue with the rear axle shafts, which could fracture and break while driving. This could lead to a loss of control and increase the risk of an accident.

The affected vehicles include the 2019-2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2020-2023 GMC Sierra 1500, 2019-2023 Chevrolet Silverado HD, 2020-2023 GMC Sierra HD, 2020-2023 Cadillac Escalade, and 2020-2023 GMC Yukon. GM has not reported any injuries related to the issue.

GM advises affected vehicle owners to park their trucks and SUVs until the repairs are completed. The automaker will notify owners by mail and provide information on scheduling a free inspection and repair. The repairs will involve replacing the rear axle shafts with new ones that are unaffected by the issue.
