The OnePlus Open, OnePlus’ first foldable smartphone, is expected to launch at the end of this month or by September. The company’s foldable handset is set to rival smartphones like Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the newly launched Tecno Phantom V Fold in India. However, the Chinese brand has yet to reveal the price of the OnePlus Open. According to a recent report by tipster Yogesh Brar on X (formerly Twitter), the OnePlus Open could be priced below Rs 1.2 lakh. If true, this would make the smartphone one of the most affordable offerings in the category and offer stiff competition to Samsung’s flagship and Tecno’s budget-friendly device.
The price leak comes just a day after OnePlus posted renders of the upcoming smartphone on its social media channels. The new renders show a slightly different design than what we saw in the previous ones but still keep the general aesthetics that have become synonymous with OnePlus smartphones. The curved corners of the new model also enhance the phone’s visual appeal. The design of the foldable camera island is more prominent than before, and it features a circular sensor with ‘Hasselblad’ branding, possibly an optical ToF or LiDAR camera for better autofocus capabilities.
A few other changes have been made to the design of the OnePlus Open as well. The alleged renders suggest the phone will now sport a tinier, slimmer display panel with improved resolution. This will ensure the handset is easier to hold and use in a single hand. It will also be much more compact and convenient to store in bags or pockets, offering better portability.
Other than that, the rumored specifications of the OnePlus Open remain unchanged. It will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC and come with up to 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Its interior display will be a 7.8-inch 2K AMOLED screen, while the cover display will have a 6.3-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Both of these screens will be protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 6. The phone is slated to run OxygenOS 13.1 instead of Android 13 out of the box. A 48MP + 48MP + 64MP triple-rear camera setup will accompany a 32MP front camera and a 4,800mAh battery with 100W Fast Charging support.
As for the launch event, OnePlus will hold an event in New York City since this is where it hosts all its significant events. The company’s official announcement will likely arrive in the next few days, so stay tuned for more details. We will update you once the company confirms the OnePlus Open’s launch date and pricing.
