Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the eagerly awaited sequel to 2018’s critically acclaimed blockbuster, launched on October 20 to critical acclaim. The first-party title has also become the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game in PlayStation history, shipping over 2.5 million copies in the first 24 hours of its release, Sony Interactive Entertainment confirmed. While the studio celebrates its success, Insomniac Games is already considering its future releases. The developer recently revealed that it’s working on a Wolverine game for the PlayStation 5.
After launching Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and its Miles Morales spinoff earlier this year, Insomniac had plenty of ground to cover with its next entry in the series. Insomniac didn’t disappoint, crafting an expansive world rife with new characters and iconic villains. From Flint Marko / Sandman, who can shrink himself down to molecules and manipulate sand at will, to Curt Connors / Lizard, an Oscorp scientist transformed into a giant reptile, the studio’s creations are incredibly diverse.
In addition, the company continues to make its games more accessible. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 features a new accessibility feature that allows players to slow down gameplay in increments of 30%, 50%, or 70% – and regular speed can be resumed at any time.

The team has also significantly improved the game’s visuals and audio, including improved character models, dynamic lighting, and a richer soundtrack. The game’s story continues from the events of Spider-Man’s 2022 debut, focusing on a new chapter in the superhero’s long and winding journey. Peter Parker and Miles Morales must work together to defeat the unified forces of Venom while facing their struggles in the process.
One of the most popular questions since Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s announcement was whether or not it would feature a Wolverine appearance. While a few teases hinted at this possibility, it was when Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s director, Bryan Intihar, spoke about the game with Kinda Funny that he confirmed a Wolverine presence in the universe.
The video game director explained that the studio wanted to avoid jumping into a Spider-Man vs. Wolverine story because they wanted to let the latter have his own standalone game that could stand on its own without being overshadowed by the larger narrative of the Spider-Man series. Regardless, Intihar did confirm that the upcoming Wolverine game will be set in the same universe as Spider-Man 2, which is known as Earth-1048.
Though no release date has been announced for Marvel’s Wolverine, the developers have promised to deliver cutting-edge gameplay and a riveting narrative. Insomniac has only offered up a cinematic teaser thus far, but fans are already excited about the prospect of a fully-fledged adaptation of the mutant hero for the PlayStation 5. With Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 enjoying such tremendous success, it will be interesting to see how this translates to Insomniac’s upcoming project. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.
